A must-read for winter decoration! Precautions for cold season construction of putty powder

As the temperature gradually drops, winter putty construction faces many challenges. This article will discuss the precautions for putty construction in low-temperature environments in winter and the key points to improve construction quality.

Through reasonable construction intervals, effective anti-freeze ventilation measures, and reasonable control of temperature and humidity, we can better ensure the smooth progress of putty construction, thereby laying a solid foundation for subsequent construction processes. Let’s take a closer look at how to ensure smooth putty construction during the winter and how to avoid common quality problems.

Sand the putty and judge the drying condition: The putty must be completely dry before sanding to ensure that the putty will not stick to the sandpaper during sanding and that the surface can maintain smoothness. If the putty is not completely dry or is frozen, the putty may stick to the sandpaper during sanding, and the surface may not be smoothed easily.

Putty antifreeze and ventilation and drying requirements: After the putty construction is completed, ventilation is usually required to speed up the drying speed of the putty. However, in low temperature environments in winter, the putty layer is easily frozen. Therefore, the ventilation time should be chosen at noon when the temperature is higher, and the ventilation time should not be too long. It is recommended to be between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Construction interval requirements: In low-temperature environments in winter, sufficient drying time is required between each putty construction. Under normal circumstances, you need to wait 2-3 days for the bottom layer of putty to completely dry after scraping, and then you can proceed with the next layer of construction. If you do not wait for the bottom layer to dry before proceeding with the next layer of construction, problems such as bubbles, hollowing, and delamination may occur between the bottom layer of putty and the surface layer of putty.

In addition, you need to pay attention to the following points:

Humidity and temperature also have certain requirements for putty construction. Excessive substrate humidity can easily cause putty bubbling, so the moisture content of the base layer should be controlled below 10%. In winter, the temperature is low and the water evaporates slowly. In order to avoid problems such as bulging and delamination caused by the continuous evaporation of moisture in the bottom layer after the paint is applied, the putty layer must be completely dry before the paint can be applied.

During winter construction, the surface layer of putty should not be applied until the bottom layer of putty is completely dry.

After two coats of putty are applied, if the wall surface is white and there are no water stains, it should be polished immediately. Over time, the structural strength of the putty layer will increase and sanding will become more difficult.

Finally, in rainy weather in winter, doors and windows should be closed tightly at night to prevent the wall from absorbing moisture in the air and increase the structural strength of the wall. It is not suitable to polish.
