Low temperature in winter—Precautions for putty construction

The low temperature in winter can easily affect the slow decomposition of organic matter in putty powder, which in turn affects the quality of the film formed after the putty powder is scraped. Therefore, there are major quality risks in low-temperature decoration construction in winter. What needs to be paid attention to is:

1. Preparation and stirring of putty powder: Due to the low temperature in winter, the decomposition rate of organic matter in the putty powder slows down, affecting the film-forming quality. Therefore, it is recommended to let it sit for 10-15 minutes after stirring, and stir evenly again before scraping to ensure that the performance of the putty powder can be exerted normally.

2. Construction temperature requirements: During putty construction, the temperature should be kept above 5°C. If the temperature is too low, the decomposition rate of the additives in the putty powder will slow down, affecting the film forming speed and quality. This may lead to a decrease in the putty's construction performance and adhesion, or even powdering without film formation.

3. Construction interval: Under low temperature conditions in winter, the bottom layer of putty powder must be scraped and dried before construction of the surface layer of putty can be carried out to avoid problems such as bubbles, hollowing, and delamination.

4. Construction thickness control: The thickness of wall putty should be controlled between 1-1.5mm during construction. An excessively thick putty layer may cause the outside to dry but not the inside, increasing the risk of hollowing and cracking.

5. Antifreeze and ventilation and drying: The outdoor temperature is low in winter, which can easily cause the putty layer to freeze. Therefore, exterior wall construction should be carried out during periods of higher temperature. After the putty construction on the interior wall, the ventilation time needs to be controlled. It is recommended to carry out ventilation between 10 am and 4 pm to avoid the putty layer freezing due to low temperature.
